The A.A. Distance Running and Walks Committee
An Athletics Australia Walking Committee was set up as a direct
consequence of the
2004 Inquiry into Athletics In Australia. The Terms
of Reference for the new committee were simple - To
address all matters relating to Race Walking in Australia and make
recommendations to the Board of Athletics Australia. It had 4 members
as follows: Bob Cruise (Chair), Tim Erickson, Wayne Fletcher and David
Smith.It was a sad fact
of life that during the lifetime of this committee, there was little
opportunity or invitation for it to
actually work constructively with Athletics Australia although we did try hard with lots of ideas and position papers.
All A.A. committees were disbanded in 2008 and nominations were
sought for a set of new committees. The walks and distance running committees were combined onto a single Committee called the Athletics Australia Distance Running and
Walking Advisory Committee.
This committee had a term of office extending from 2009 to 31 December
2012 and its mandate was to advise the Board generally on matters
relating to road,
mountain and ultra running, road walking and cross-country running
competition, including amendments to the technical rules of such
competition. The Committee comprised ten members and was
subdivided into Distance Running and Walks. The Walks subgroup
consisted of Tim Erickson (chair), Brent Vallance, Luke Adams and Bob
Cruise.
The latest incarnation of the Athletics Australia Distance Running and
Walking Advisory Committee was setup early in 2013 and consists of the following
