The annual Lake Burley Griffin Carnival is held each June in Canberra, the capital of Australia. This is the main event for the AFRWC and has a strong team emphasis. As well as the events listed below (which are AFRWC championship events) there are ACT Championship events and events for age groups such as Under 9. The carnival also includes the Australian Under 20 mens 10000m Road Walking Championship.
The 20 mile race is held on the Sunday morning on a tough hilly course around the lake while the other Championship events are held on the Sunday afternoon. All events are road events.
This year a Peter Waddell Memorial walk was held on the Saturday afternoon from Western Park. This informal tribute to Peter attracted around 100 walkers from all States and was a fitting remembrance to Peter, the driving force behind this Carnival.
