38th Lake Burley Griffin Race Walking Carnival, 13 June 2004, Canberra
The annual Lake Burley Griffin Carnival is held each June in Canberra, the capital of Australia. This is the main event for the AFRWC and has a strong team emphasis. The carnival this year involved approximately 200 walkers of all ages. There are AFRWC championship events for age groups from Under 10 through to Masters. The carnival also includes the Australian Under 20 Mens 10000m Road Walking Championship.
The 20 mile race is held on the Sunday morning on a tough hilly course around the lake while the other Championship events are held on the Sunday afternoon. All events are road events.
ONce again a Peter Waddell Memorial walk was held on the Saturday afternoon from Western Park. This informal tribute to Peter attracted around 100 walkers from all States and was a fitting remembrance to Peter, the driving force behind this Carnival.

The Inaugural Racewalking Australia Challenge was held on Saturday 10 July 2004. Each member walking club raced the following fixture of events over its own designated course in its own State or Territory. The points from the fastest competitor from each club in each race will be added and the club with the lowest point declared the winner. If a club fails to have a competitor finish in any category, that club will be awarded the same points as the highest scoring competitor.
